So I had to post this.. I'm putting the pictures behind a cut because they're brutally upsetting. But it's reality.
Whether it be about animal shelters, animal abuse, factory farming and the meat you're eating or whatever.. so many people tell me "I can't listen/watch/read this because it upsets me." I think that's weak. If you just don't care, that's fine. But don't act like it bothers you and not face the reality of it. When I decided to become a vegetarian, I was intrigued to learn about what was going on with meat people are eating, what those animals that you see at PetSmart went through before they ended up in those glass cages, how many peoples idea of "farming" has changed tremendously. It was all upsetting, I had to skip over some footage and mute the sounds and take a break in order to go back and finish, but I learned... and I believe I have a very educated view of exactly what's going on out there with those helpless animals that didn't even ask to be here. You're not going to understand what's going on out there unless you face this reality and get educated, whether it be by watching a documentary, or reading an article, just open your eyes to evidence. You cannot fix a problem unless you understand the problem. Hm. Anyway.. here's this...
Everybody's seen that cat wandering outside in their neighborhood..
Maybe that cat is spayed or neutered, maybe that cat has a owner somewhere in the neighborhood that lets it roam around outside, maybe that cat got out of the house and lost it's way back home, maybe that cat has been abandoned by it's family out in the cold winter.
The fact is that two unaltered cats can produce 12 cats in one year, if those felines live through the harsh weather and circumstance, the next year there could be 66 cats and in just 5 years there's a potential of over 12,000 cats. No, there will never be 12,000 cats roaming around in your neighborhood due to death because of disease, lack of food, fighting, human traffic, human abuse(poison, physical, ect). "Stray cats" are also known as feral cats. There are a few types of feral cats, the worst possible scenario feral cat would be one that was born outside and has never had any human contact, or possibly negative contact from humans. Think of this feral cat as having a wild animal's personality.. it is no longer a domesticated animal at this point. A wild animal living in the middle of suburbia. A healthy feral cat can be tamed! It just takes plenty of time and patients. Andy and I lived in a pretty bad neighborhood before we moved into the house and there were cats running around everywhere. I witnessed plenty people throwing their cats outside to face life on their own. Our youngest cat, Kazia is one of those cats that had been tossed outside on a doorstep because she was unwanted. She is the most playful, affectionate cat and there is absolutely nothing wrong with her. I'm verrryy happy to say that all of our cats are spayed/neutered, they all have microchips and have collars with name tags and all necessary information needed to relocate them back to us just in case they get out of the house. Anyway.. here's what happens when you put your once precious, loved kitten outside where their little souls DON'T belong.

Peanut Butter is amazingly easy to make. Just takes forever to process in the food processor. Also could have been a little creamier/moister. Next time I'll have to add more oil or honey or something.

I used blackberries for the jelly. The 2nd time in a row I used gelatin instead of pectin. For some reason whenever I go get supplies to make jelly I ALWAYS grab gelatin. It still works, just isn't as great, and you've gotta warm it up a little to make it spreadable.

I also made homemade bread, which I don't have pictures of.. but it turned out great.
I'm a little amazed, myself with the fact that we can have truly homemade PB&J sandwiches.

:] New favorite coffee/tea cup. My life in a coffee cup.

So I'm not finding very many valentines day decorations. Andy says Valentines day is just a "hallmark" holiday or whatever. But I think it's cute.. it's cute and it reminds me that warm weather is on its way, so I love it. Anyway. I want to decorate but can't really find anything good at a reasonable price. I had a piece of red felt sticking out of my craft bag thing and I knew I had pink ribbon laying around, so I decided to make this.

Extremely easy and quick! And I think it looks adorable hanging from the mantel.
Felt, ribbon, scissors, hot glue gun and 15 minutes of your time.

Recently I have decided I want to try and take up sewing. Or at least learn how to do basic things. I can do basics with a needle and thread. Do the results always turn out nice? No. But they do the job. I live the idea of finding cute little patterns and making things out of them. I'll get a sewing machine soon enough. Until I think I should start collecting material.
Also, I have to mention my ridiculous habit of leaving doors open. I just walked out of the computer room to fill my coffee cup up and I look in the kitchen and almost every cabinet door we have is wide open. Even the dishwasher door! Ugh.

I used a can of sweetened condensed milk, added peppermint extract.
I used 1 1/2 t. Then blended in powdered sugar until it reached a "non sticky" consistency.
Form into 1 inch ball, freeze, smash into discs and freeze again.
Then you're supposed to dip into melted chocolate using the double boiler method.
The only problem is, the mint disc thaws and gets soft and loses its shape and falls apart in the melted chocolate. It just became this huge mess, half the discs came out funky looking, the other half are half dipped in chocolate, and then I have a batch that I didn't even dip in chocolate. Needless to say, despite the appearance, they're yummy.
I haven't had a celebrity crush or whatever you call them in quite a while.
On my current favorite show (Regis and Kelly!) this morning, they had Ian Somerhalder as a guest.
Mm. :] AND he's part Irish.
Now if I could onlyy figure out how twitter works (Am I 60 years old or what?) so I can follow his twitter-ing???
